Currently,the frequent job-hopping of graduates has aroused wide concern among the public. Does anyone hold the same attitude toward this phenomenon? Definitely not. As to this issue, opinions vary from person to person.

With more scholars coming back from overseas, and with the concerted efforts of the whole nation, we have reasons to expect a faster rejuvenation of this country.

大學英語寫作是衡量學生英語綜合水平和應用能力的一個重要的考查指標,也是大學英語四、六級考試的一個重要內容。教育部高等教育司發行的大學英語課程教學要求就書面表達(一般要求)明確要求學生“能完成一般性的寫作任務,能描述個人經歷、觀感、情感和發生的事件等,能寫常見的應用文,能就一般性話題或提綱在半小時內寫出120詞的短文,內容基本完整,用詞恰當,語意連貫,能掌握基本的寫作技巧”。由于大綱明確地規定了時間和篇幅,這就要求學生能緊扣所給的題目主題,寫出言簡意賅、邏輯性強、語言規范的文章。然而大部分學生在四、六級考場感到非常棘手,加上情緒緊張,往往造成思路不清晰,字跡潦草,亂涂亂改,以致失分嚴重。大學英語四、六級改革后的新題型,寫作占了總分710分的15%,也就是說寫作的滿分是106.5分。筆者曾分析長江大學文理學院的06級大學英語考生四級考試的總分數和寫作分數之間的關系,發現基本上寫作分數在80分左右的學生,總分大部分在425分以上,也就通過了四級考試,而大部分沒有通過考試的學生寫作分數偏低。因此,寫好作文對于參加大學英語四、六級考試的學生來說至關重要,不容忽視。
筆者結合教學過程中對學生習作的批改經驗,總結出影響學生作文成績的幾個原因。以學生2008年3月份的習作題目“Holding Olympic Games:a Business Activity or a Sports Ceremony?”為例,提綱如下:有的人認為召開奧林匹克運動會已經成為了一種商業行為,而不再是單純的體育盛會;有的人認為奧林匹克運動會仍然是全世界的體育盛會,奧林匹克精神得到了傳承與弘揚,闡述你的觀點和看法。筆者具體分析了學生在寫作方面的薄弱環節,具體如下:
通過對學生上交的習作進行詳細分析,總結出學生在寫作過程中主要存在如下幾個薄弱環節。
一、沒有四、六級作文的框架意識和主題意識
無視標題和提綱,隨心所欲地寫出一段或是多于三段的文章。有的學生洋洋灑灑地寫出五六段兩三百字的文章,可是很多的語言和段落與主題無關。譬如有些學生用大量的篇幅描述奧運會的起源和歷史,有的介紹29屆北京奧運會的口號“New Beijing,Great Olympics”,以及中國政府承諾舉辦一屆高科技有特色的奧運會和所做的努力,有的還介紹了北京正在為第29屆奧運會做哪些整備工作以及進展的狀況等。因此,我們在訓練學生寫作時,一定要強調學生要抓住主題,選擇最緊扣主題的信息材料和語言,以最合乎邏輯的方式安排層次和結構,讓學生在正式下筆之前,擬好提綱,整理思路,使自己的文章結構環環相扣,層次分明。
二、英語語法基礎薄弱,出現重大的語法錯誤
這里所說的重大語法錯誤包括時態、語態的混用,主謂不一致,單詞詞性混用,以及用詞不當等。例如:
1.The 29th period Olympic Games will hold in Beijing,China.
2.The Olympic Games has many sport items,such as run,jump,swim and so on.
3.Actually,the Olympic Games is derived from the old Greece.
4.I am afraid that the Olympic spirits will dead.I don’t want this day come true one day.
5.Host a high-level Games is the solemn promise that the Chinese government and people make.
6.The five rings in five colors represent the five continents of the world join in friendship.
以上都是學生習作的原句,暴露了學生的不同的語法缺陷。例句1,3是典型的語態的混用,hold應改為be held;is derived from應改為derive from。例句2,4,5混用單詞詞性,沒有考慮句子結構。run,jump swim應該改為動名詞running,jumping,swimming;形容詞dead應該改為動詞詞組die out作謂語;host應改為hosting,構成名詞短語作主語。例2中還出現了時態和語態的雙重錯誤,主謂不一致,以及用詞不當,has應改為have been set up。例句5還出現了時態的錯誤,make應改為made。例句3還出現了用詞不當,old應改為ancient。例句6 join in應改為joined in,構成過去分詞短語作后置定語。
很明顯,這些錯誤會嚴重影響得分。我們知道大學英語四六級作文的評分原則是總體評分,就文章總體印象給分。學生如果犯嚴重的語言錯誤,勢必給評卷教師很不好的印象,得分就自然而然低。因此在大學英語教學中,強調基礎的語法知識是必要的。學生只有掌握基本的語法,才能寫出正確的句子,從而寫出通順的文章。
三、句式簡單缺乏變化,上下文連接不緊湊,表達方式不地道
在批改學生的習作時,筆者發現有些學生的作文句式表達正確,符合語法規范,思路也清晰,但整個文章很枯燥,缺乏生動性。造成此種現象的原因在于句式和用詞太過呆板,過于重復,上下文無銜接過渡詞匯,沒有承上啟下之筆。很多學生在整篇文章中表達個人的觀點時,都是重復多次以第一/三人稱為主語的單一句式出現,譬如“I/they think...”,“I/they believe...”,“I should should do...”,“I/they must do...”。再比如表示轉折意思和因果關系時,不少學生總是不厭其煩地用“but”和“so”。適當的句式變化和用詞生動可以使文章潤色。所以,在教學過程中,可以給學生歸納一些常用的表達方式,并且要求學生強化記憶,以便讓學生做“有米之炊”。例如:
1.表達自己觀點的模式

3.表達普通或共同的觀點
The most widely-held view is,It is generally(universally)thought(believed,considered,acknowledged,recognized,agreed)that,The great majority of the people share the same idea,We are of the same mind,I am of their mind,I can’t agree more,I absolutely(entirely,totally,utterly)agree with them,Generally speaking,etc.
4.因果過渡詞
thus,therefore,hence,accordingly,consequently,in view of,because of,due to,owing to,thanks to,on account of,for this reason,for this purpose,on that account,as a result of,in this(that)case,result in,result from,by the reason that,that is why,etc.
5.意思轉折過渡詞

四、沒有四、六級作文的內容意識和亮點意識,缺乏新穎性和創造性
相當一部分學生在作文當中所表現出對事物的認識水平和閱歷見解與其年齡和文化程度不相稱,寫出的作文著眼點低、視野狹窄。最主要的問題是,作文中缺乏事例和數據,經常是大篇幅的說理,內容空洞無味。另外,筆者發現少數學生背誦和掌握了不少的作文模板,語言也比較流暢,思路清晰,文章的結構有條有理,可是缺乏自己獨到的見解,沒有閃光點和亮點。仍然以上述習作為例,有些學生在第一二段中分析得有條有理,語言也很流暢。可是,在第三段闡述自己的觀點時,只是輕描淡寫地同意了第一種觀點,認為人們把召開奧運會當作一種商業行為,失去了奧林匹克的精神和意義,沒有闡述任何理由,也沒有新穎或說服力強的例證,就草草結束行文,給人“神龍見首不見尾”之感,不免使文章黯然失色。
以上是筆者多年來通過對學生的四、六級作文進行綜合分析總結出的在四、六級作文中普遍存在的問題。希望通過對這些問題的分析,可以幫助學生提高英語寫作水平,同時對大學英語教學有一定的指導意義。
